Our Beloved Ashley
Ashley’s Story
Ashley Lemire was a daughter, sister, friend, and colleague whose kindness, strength, and determination left a lasting mark on everyone who knew her. She lived her 39 years with a deep sense of purpose, an infectious laugh, and a heart that always put others first. Whether on the basketball court, at work, or spending time with family and friends, Ashley gave her all—showing up with warmth, grace, and an unwavering positive spirit.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Ashley shared a special bond with her parents, Daniel and Cheryl, and her sister Robyn, who was also her best friend. Just 18 months apart, the two were inseparable: teammates in life, on the basketball court, and in countless adventures that shaped their close-knit family.
From an early age, Ashley showed incredible determination and kindness. She excelled in sports, particularly basketball, where her drive and teamwork shone through. Off the court, she was equally admired for her intelligence, organization, and unwavering sense of responsibility—qualities that carried her into a successful career with the federal government, where she built lasting friendships and earned deep respect from colleagues.
Ashley had a gift for bringing people together. Whether it was a themed condo party, a family dinner, or a spontaneous night out, she made every moment brighter with her quick wit, thoughtful nature, and signature laugh. Her love for life’s simple joys—Diet Coke, endless shrimp at Red Lobster, cheering for the Sens, Patriots, and Raptors, and time spent golfing with loved ones—painted a picture of a woman who lived fully, with gratitude and heart.
Ashley passed away on December 13, 2023, at just 39 years old, surrounded by her family. Though gone far too soon, her spirit, strength, and compassion continue to inspire everyone who knew her.
Ashley’s Health Journey
Ashley’s story is one of courage in the face of lifelong health challenges. Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 12, she learned early on what it meant to fight—and to keep going, no matter the odds. Despite the daily hurdles of managing her condition, she refused to let it define her. She lived a full, active life, pursuing sports, travel, and career goals with determination and grace.
In March 2023, Ashley faced her greatest battle yet when she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She approached it as she did everything else—with bravery, honesty, and remarkable strength. She endured countless treatments and hospital stays, never losing her sense of humor or her desire to protect and comfort those around her. Her resilience and optimism inspired everyone who walked alongside her journey.
Ashley’s ability to fight with dignity, compassion, and courage remains one of her most enduring legacies.
Our Mission: Teeing Off for Diabetes
To honour Ashley’s life and spirit, her family and friends founded Teeing Off for Diabetes – The Ashley Lemire Memorial Golf Tournament. Golf held a special place in Ashley’s heart, especially in her final years. It was a game she shared with family and friends—filled with laughter, competition, and connection. She was known affectionately as “Coach” to her golfing partner Meg, a testament to the quiet leadership she showed both on and off the course.
The annual memorial tournament is more than just a day on the greens—it’s a celebration of Ashley’s life, a gathering of the community she helped build, and a meaningful way to give back. Through this event, we’ve raised over $22,000 to date in support of diabetes research, helping others facing the same challenges Ashley lived with so courageously.
Each swing, each shared laugh, and each contribution carries forward her spirit of generosity and perseverance.
The Ashley Lemire Memorial Scholarship
In 2026, Ashley’s legacy will take on a new chapter with the launch of the Ashley Lemire Memorial Scholarship Fund, established in partnership with St. Matthew Catholic High School—Ashley’s alma mater.
Each year, this $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who embodies Ashley’s defining qualities: academic and athletic excellence, determination, kindness, and resilience in the face of adversity. It’s a tribute not only to the life Ashley lived, but to the strength and hope she inspired in others.
Through this scholarship, we aim to carry Ashley’s impact forward—empowering the next generation to rise above life’s challenges and lead with heart, just as she did.
Continuing Ashley’s Legacy
Ashley taught us that life’s truest measure lies not in its length, but in the love, laughter, and kindness we share. Through every event, donation, and scholarship awarded, her spirit continues to bring people together—to laugh, to support one another, and to make a difference.
We invite you to join us in honouring Ashley’s legacy through Teeing Off for Diabetes and the Ashley Lemire Memorial Scholarship Fund. Together, we’re ensuring that her courage, compassion, and joy for life continue to shine for years to come.
